So we left the Caucasus region behind and entered Iran! The landscape had changed dramatically right at the border on the River Arax. We were entering Azeri Iran - the northwestern corner of Iran populated by ethnic Azeris. From here we headed to the Caspian coast and the lush green forested mountains of Gilan Province. Then we headed south to the land that was once ancient Media, ancient Elam and Persia.
